Bali Consul-General Helena Studdert says the Indonesian Government’s push to create 10 more Bali-like tourist meccas meant many opportunities are opening in the region.

A year ago Indonesian President Joko Widodo called on his tourism minister to create 10 new tourist destinations across the country.

“It’s an exciting time in that there’s lots of work going on around the Indonesian Government’s 10 new Bali concepts,” Studdert says.

“There are good discussions around infrastructure, ports and air services.”

She says the sundowner will be a great chance for businesses to discuss opportunities in Bali and other regions including challenges, potential markets and barriers.

Australia and Indonesia held their sixth round of negotiations towards the Indonesia-Australia Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement to develop closer economic ties and open up markets for businesses, primary producers, service providers and investors in February.

Last month Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull said Indonesia’s potential was a golden opportunity for Australia.

Tourism, education, infrastructure and technology start-ups are areas where West Australian businesses could find opportunities in Bali, Studdert says.

Studdert, who has been stationed in Bali since early last year, acknowledged there were barriers to doing business with Indonesia but was confident the government realised the need to change regulations.
