CCI members are extremely concerned at the policy of ship owners to introduce and significantly increase surcharges on freight rates for both Australian imports and exports. These surcharges have hit inbound trade particularly hard. Additionally both importers and exporters are being restricted in their ability to negotiate satisfactory freight contracts with shipping lines that are members of ‘Discussion Groups’.

On 19 November 2003, representatives from CCIWA participated in a discussion with representatives from Treasury, Department of Transport and Regional Services and the ACCC in Melbourne where we supported a request that the next review of Part X of the Trade Practices Act 1974 should be advanced from 2005 to 2004.
