A decision by hundreds of Perth taxi drivers to not work for two full days is highly regrettable. It is in theirs and everyone's best interest that the drivers return to the road as soon as possible.
The drivers should be able to convey their views to the Government about changes to the taxi system without inconveniencing the public and visitors to such an extent.
It is well known that the taxi industry has been unable to cope with increased demand resulting from population growth and surging numbers of interstate and overseas visitors.
CCI supports the initiatives introduced by Planning and Infrastructure Minister Alannah MacTiernan. She needs to be doing everything possible to correct the industry's structural problems and to help it keep ahead of demand.
For the city to resume functional normality, it is essential that the drivers who have withdrawn their services return to work as soon as possible.
