Introduction to Project Management
Projects are of critical importance to organisations. Without a constant flow of projects, organisations would not survive. They offer the only means by which organisations can deliver change by solving problems or seizing opportunities to achieve strategic objectives.
Projects are special. The are finite, unique, risky, involve temporary teams and focus on a specific result that bring changes by revolutionary improvements. Consequently they need a special management approach - project management.
An organisation that has poor project management capability will find it difficult to effectively and efficiently achieve their strategic objectives. Project management should be a core business process in all organisations. The Introduction to Project Management course is a practical, interactive hands-on program.

- produce a project budget
- produce a project risk register

What makes a dismissal unfair? Recent management surveys reveal that receiving a claim for unfair dismissal is one of the greatest fears for most employers. The complexity of employment law means that employers and managers require training to avoid costly mistakes.
Outcomes
This program examines what constitutes a valid reason to end an employment contract and the basic pre-termination procedures necessary to avoid an unfair dismissal claim. In this course we also explore some of the trickier issues concerning termination of employment, including abandonment and termination due to illness and injury. The program bridges the gap between knowing the theory of procedural fairness when counselling and disciplining employees and actually applying it in the workplace.
Content
- valid and invalid reasons for termination
- basic procedural fairness for poor performance and misconduct
- when is a ’resignation’ really a ’dismissal’?
- correct notice and other requirements upon termination
- fair procedures in:
- planning and implementing redundancies
- managing excessive absenteeism and abandonment
- terminating employees on workers’ compensation
- good documentation
- the difference between counselling and discipline
- how to provide effective feedback
- how to run a counselling and discipline meeting

New streamlined energy reporting regime
The Federal Government has announced plans to streamline energy reporting requirements under the National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting Regulations and the Energy Efficiencies Opportunities programs.
The EEO program is a key component of the Government’s push to improve energy use by Australia’s largest energy-using businesses. It requires companies using more than 0.5 petajoules of energy a year to undertake energy efficiency opportunity assessments and report publicly on the results of those assessments and measures planned to reduce energy use.
The EEO program covers around 60 per cent of Australia’s total business energy use.
The National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting System will collect energy use data which will form the basis for a future emissions trading scheme. Streamlining the EEO with this system is designed to address concerns expressed by some businesses that energy use reporting would be duplicated under the two systems.
Announcing the changes, Commonwealth Minister for Energy Hon Martin Ferguson, confirmed that the Governments Online System for Comprehensive Activity Reporting was being developed to accommodate the new reporting regime.

National Water Commission releases reports on Water Utility Performance
The National Water Comission's Reports are on the performance of urban utilities and rural water service providers. Copies of both reports can be obtained from the NWC’s web site. (www.nwc.gov.au)
The reports are the result of an agreement by all states and territories, as part of the National Water Initiative Agreement, to report independently and publicly each year benchmarking data on the pricing and service quality of urban water utilities and rural water service providers. Because of the significant differences between the urban and rural sectors, different performance reporting models apply and their performance has been reflected in separate reports.
The reports were prepared jointly by the NWC, all state and territory governments, and the Water Services Association of Australia.
The "National Performance Report: Urban Water Utilities" is now the central source of information relating to the performance of urban water utilities and provides information on 82 utilities, reporting up to 150 key performance indicators in relation to water consumption, asset management, customer service, environment, health, finance and pricing.
The National Performance Report: Rural Water Service Providers contains data on the 13 largest rural water service providers who together manage approximately 92 per cent of the rural water network supply. The data is collated in four sets: characteristics, service indicators, environmental indicators and financial indicators.
The report demonstrates there is an considerable diversity amongst rural water service providers with size, location, type of delivery network and climatic conditions.
