CCI's Resource and Energy Committee meets bi-monthly and deals with issues such as energy supply and pricing, water supply and pricing, heavy industry sites, infrastructure and greenhouse policy. It represents members' views to ensure that key economic, environmental and legislative issues are addressed and promote rather than hinder the growth and viability of the State's energy and resource sectors.

CCI's Climate Change Committee (CCC) was formed in December 2006 to address the increasingly complex matters associated with global warming.

The CCC examines such topics as emissions trading, carbon taxes, offsets regimes, energy policies, environmental management matters and business development opportunities related to climate change.

Some of the current issues under consideration are listed below.

ERA's Consultation on the Annual Wholesale Electricity Market Report

The Authority's discussion paper states that, in light of the extensive consultations that were undertaken during the restructuring of the electricity industry in Western Australia, and the short since the WEM has been operating, the first report should be focused on the assessment of the effectiveness of the WEM at a fairly high level.

Electricity Consumer Code of Conduct - 11 July 07

CCI participated in the bi-annual review of the Electricity Consumer Code of Conduct and wrote to the Economic Regulation Authority (ERA) promoting greater choice in the electricity market and arguing against features that would impose greater costs on consumers.

CCI Submission to Draft State Water Plan (13 Feb 07)

State Water Plan (19 July 2006)

CCI believes that the State's water resources must be capable of being maintained and be sufficient to meet growth. Western Australia's capacity to meet the current and future water needs of its population and businesses depends primarily on ensuring that it has the capital necessary to collect and deliver water and receive and process wastewater.

Draft Western Power Support Service Prices for the SWIS 2004-05 (August 2004)

The Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Western Australia (CCI) has significant concerns over the Ancillary Services Charges proposed by Western Power. In CCI’s view, the charges, if implemented, will seriously harm investment in renewable energy generation in Western Australia, and reduce opportunities for the development of a diversified electricity generation market in this State.
