New Industry Training Advisory Arrangements
The State Training Board review of the Industry Training Advisory Bodies (ITABs) are now being actioned.The new arrangements, which were expected to implemented by 1November 2008, will see the consolidation of the current 14 industry training advisory bodies to 10 new Training Councils.
The changes are part of the ongoing major reforms to WA’s training system to make it more flexible and responsive to industry needs.
The Minister also announced additional funding of $2.22 million on top of the existing funding of $1.83 million for the new councils.
The new Training Councils will include high level industry representatives from both employer and employee groups, who will drive reforms and solutions to address skill shortages now and into the future.”
The new councils will be based around the following industry groupings:
- Education, Health Care and Social Assistance;
- Retail Trade and Other Services;
- Building and Construction;
- Manufacturing and Automotive;
- Arts, Information, Media and Telecommunications, Hospitality and Tourism;
- Financial, Administrative and Professional Services;
- Transport, Postal and Wholesale Trade;
- Agriculture, Forestry, Fishing, Food Manufacturing and Scientific;
- Public Administration, Electricity, Gas, Water and Waste Services; and
- Resources Sector.
Under the new arrangements, the Training Councils will take a leadership role in developing workforce development plans and strategies to assist industry to address current and future skills shortages. The end result will be improved Government and industry planning for an ageing workforce, including through up-skilling of the existing workforce, as well as the promotion of careers within those industries with significant ageing issues and skill shortages.
