The manufacturing sector is an important source of economic activity in WA and a valuable contributor to the State’s economy. Manufacturing contributes 6.4 per cent of WA Gross State Product and at last estimated accounted for 40 per cent of State expenditure on research and development.
The CCI Manufacturing Forum gives members working in this sector an opportunity to meet and shape CCI policy relating to it. The Forum has members from industries including food, agriculture, chemical, fabrication and machinery that comprises the State’s manufacturing sector.
Some of the Manufacturing Forum’s key priorities for 2011 are:
- local content policy;
- addressing labour shortages;
- the impact of the ‘two speed’ economy on small and medium enterprises;
- fly-in/fly-out practices and regional development; and
- a review of payroll tax including its indexation.
