CCI's Environmental Management Committee (EMC) is one of eight industry committees at CCI that advise CCI's Manufacturing, Engineering and Resource Forum.

EMC evaluates and makes submissions on environmental policies and regulations affecting industry. EMC also monitors community attitudes on environmental issues and arranges appropriate meetings, conferences, and other forms of communication to inform industry of developments in environmental matters initiated by state and federal governments.

EMC represents industry on proposed legislation and regulations, environmental protection policies, codes of practice and other issues of relevance. EMC also formulates and recommends appropriate action and policies to CCI's General Council through the Forum.

Representatives from 26 member organisations form this committee, which meets every two months.

CCI's Extractive Industries Committee meets on a quarterly basis and provides advice on matters relating to the extraction of basic raw materials. Its principal focus has been on State Government planning and environmental policy, which affects the extractive industry.

The committee has representatives from 24 CCI member companies and meets every two months.

Matters considered recently by representatives of both the EMC and EIC include:

Response to Second Application for Emergency National Heritage (14 Feb 07)

CCI understands that a second application for an emergency listing of the Burmp Peninsula (the Burrup) was lodged earlier this week and on behalf of the Bump Industries Forum would like to make the following comments.

CCI maintains that the existing process for assessing the heritage and environmental values of the Burmp is sufficiently exhaustive, obviating the need for an emergency national heritage listing (NHL).

Submission on Proposed Amendments to Environmental Protection (14 Feb 07)

Whilst CCI does not object to the notion of cost recovery in association with the tracking and processing of controlled wastes, we do object to a revised fee structure without being able to understand the costs required to administer the system. For this reason, CCI would like to see an independent audit of the controlled waste system before the proposed new fees are implemented in March.
