The Pilbara region is situated in the North West of Western Australia and covers more than 507,896 sq kilometres. It is bordered by the Gascoyne and comprises of four local government authorities; the Shires of Ashburton, East Pilbara and Roebourne and the Town of Port Hedland. The towns located in this region include Tom Price, Paraburdoo, Onslow, Pannawonica, Marble Bar, Nullagine, Newman Karratha, Dampier, Roebourne, Wickham and Point Samson. The region also encompasses a number of Aboriginal communities such as Jigalong, Punmu, Parnngurr, Kiwirrkurr and Kunawarritji.
The primary industries in the region are oil, gas, mining (including iron ore, salt, manganese and copper), cattle, fishing, construction and tourism.
