How can an apprentice or trainee benefit my business?
Build skills
Apprenticeships can make your organisation more effective, competent, productive and competitive by directly addressing your skills gaps. Apprenticeships allow you to invest in the future of your business. By taking on an apprentice you can acquire the specialist skills needed to keep you abreast of new techniques and technologies.
Lift morale
Many employers also find that training through Apprenticeships has a positive impact on general staff morale, retention and productivity. Apprentices don’t view their Apprenticeship as just a job but as a stepping stone to a successful career - they are enthusiastic and committed. By offering apprenticeships or traineeships you will find it easier to recruit and retain the right people for your organisation.
Choose training
Apprenticeships are designed business people who genuinely understand your industry sector. You and your employee/s can choose the level and type of qualifications that suit your business needs. This can also allow you to standardise your training program across your organisation and align your staff’s skills accordingly.
Financial Benefits
Australian Government incentives
Incentives of up to $4000 are available to reduce the cost of training for employers through the Australian Government’s Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relation. You can apply for additional incentives for apprenticeships in skills classified as being in shortage in regional and rural Australia, to employ apprentices/trainees with a disability and to employ mature age apprentices.
Payroll Tax exemption
You are exempt from Payroll Tax for wages of apprentices/trainees. Please phone the Department of Treasury & Finance on (08) 9262 1300 for further information.
Where do I find an apprentice or trainee?
You can employ an apprentice or trainee directly as you would any member of staff. A good option is to look for someone who is genuinely interested in a career in your industry and has relevant work experience, or has completed a related course. You might wish to consider an applicant’s career goals, their communication and team working skills as well as their school results.
If you require advertising for your vacant positions, CCI Apprenticeships can help.
