While specialising in the metals and engineering trade areas; Apprenticeships Australia employs apprentices and trainees in over 35 industry sectors across a range of occupational areas.
An apprenticeship is a structured training arrangement of usually 3.5 or 4 years duration. The training combines practical experience at work with complementary off-the-job training with a Registered Training Organisation.
On successful completion they are issued with a nationally recognised qualification and are qualified tradespeople.
A traineeship is a training agreement between the trainee and their respective employer whereby the employer agrees to train the trainee in a specific industry, and the trainee agrees to work and learn.
Traineeships are available for people of all ages and usually last between 9 to 48 months, depending in the vocation and certificate level undertaken.
A comprehensive list of all apprenticeships and traineeships on offer can be found at http://www.det.wa.edu.au/apprenticentre.
The Apprenticeships Australia Supervisor will appoint a RTO for the apprentice/trainee to attend. They will also provide them with a Training Program Outline (TPO) detailing the modules the apprentice/trainee will need to complete.
Apprentices and trainees will be credited any units they have previously completed.
Our charge out rate includes payment of RTO training fees.
The probation period is included in the term of the training arrangement and allows both employer and apprentice/trainee to determine job suitability. The probation period may be extended by either party.
- 1 month probationary period Apprenticeships: 3 month probationary period.
As employer of the apprentice/trainee Apprenticeships Australia receives any applicable employer incentives. These incentives are passed on to host companies in the development of the charge out quote, as all incentives are taken into consideration when developing rates.
Apprenticeships Australia does not rotate its apprentices/trainees among Host Companies. It is intended that the apprentice/trainee will remain with one Host Company throughout the term of training unless specific circumstances apply. Apprenticeships Australia organises secondments for apprentices/trainees to gain further experience in a particular area, or when a host company is experiencing a temporaray low work volume.
Apprenticeships Australia generically pays apprentices/trainees just above the award rate. However; host companies are able to pay their apprentices/trainees a higher wage, which will be worked into the formal Chargeout quote.
Contact Wageline on 1300 655 266 to ascertain the minimum rate applicable.
Apprenticeships Australia does not guarantee employment by the host following an individual’s apprenticeship or traineeship. Subsequent employment of the apprentice/trainee is at the sole discretion of the host company.
Apprenticeships Australia is available to meet with Host representatives to discuss training options and any other queries you may have. Below is an indication of the processes which need to occur before an apprentice can start at the Host:
- chargeout quotes are supplied by Apprenticeships Australia;
- on receipt of signed quotes host companies are asked to complete an Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) questionnaire which may be followed up with an OSH inspection by an Apprenticeships Australia OSH representative;
- once Apprenticeships Australia’s OSH department grants approval for the host company; Host Company Agreements are produced to be signed;
- on signing of Host Agreements recruitment for positions may begin.
Apprenticeships Australia’s recruitment process is as follows:
