The Premier Alan Carpenter's decision to call an election for 6 September provides an opportunity for Western Australia's political leaders to outline their vision for the future and develop a plan to build on the State’s economic successes.
The State's peak business organisation, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Western Australia, urges all political parties to develop sound policies that stimulate economic growth and business investment and promote WA as an attractive place to live and work.
Key policy areas for CCI and the WA business community, each of which is important in its own right, but all of which need to be addressed, are;
- Labour shortages
- Infrastructure development
- Energy supply
- Retail Trading Hours
- Taxation
- Regulation and red tape
- Education and Training
- Government efficiency
- Climate change
- Approvals processes
Throughout the four week campaign CCI will scrutinise the policies of the major parties.
Western Australians deserve a rational and sensible debate about how to reinforce and strengthen the State as the economic powerhouse of the nation.
